"Moral virtue" means a good moral quality or characteristic in a person, referring to a consistent pattern of behavior that aligns with what is considered ethically right and good, often including qualities like honesty, kindness, justice, and courage; essentially, it describes the quality of acting morally upright and doing what is considered the right thing to do.

This term is closely tied to the field of ethics, where it is a central concept in "virtue ethics" which focuses on developing good character traits rather than just following rules.

Honesty, integrity, compassion, generosity, loyalty, responsibility, courage 

  • Origin:

The word "virtue" comes from the Latin "Virtus" which means "strength" or "manly quality".
